Thanks to one of my design blogs, I stumbled across photographer Phillip Toledano's emotional scrapbook/photographic journey of his time with his 98-year-old father, who suffers from short-term memory loss. The pictures are beautifully done with great care to showing all of his father's age and wisdom...and all of the sad moments. Plus, his commentary only compliments the photographs, which talk about his father's humor, how he wishes he would die, and telling his father everyday that his wife is gone. Ever since being reintroduced to the song when I watched the movie "Casino," I have been overplaying "House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals (the best version, I think). I'd love to do a photo shoot inspired by this; there are so many old fields and we've had such beautiful weather lately...I think this could be possible. I think in order to actually use the line involving the house itself I'd have to find an old house, but I don't think it's all that necessary. Keep pushing me to do this if you don't see anything by the end of July. I really want to try this.
